Slavic Castle in Wólka Bielecka

The main idea of the Slavic Castle is to bring closer and cultivate the traditions of our ancestors, to learn about various aspects of the life of the Slavs, to understand their culture and customs, as well as their modern-day remnants in church holidays, customs and folk rituals, and to convey this knowledge to visitors in the stories of Grododziad, realizing re-enactments and interactive workshops.

History of the village

The idea for the Slavic Castle was born in the spring of 2004 on the initiative of Jaroslaw Wolinski and his daughter Dorota – owners of this private historical park and enthusiasts of the early Middle Ages. On the purchased plot of land (farm) they began to recreate an early medieval castle, unique on a European scale. They reconstructed here the fortified buildings of the 10th-13th centuries, traces of which were discovered by archaeologists in nearby Klarow.

“This is what I am recreating the fortified settlement for. On the other side of the Vistula, similar encounters with history are common.” – Jaroslaw Wolinski

“Children know what voodoo dolls are, but they haven’t heard about Slavic hankies.” – Jaroslaw Wolinski
